Fixin for the new year

Except for taking breaks to restring my guitar, do dishes, and entertain the kids, Chris spent the entire day fixing things in the kitchen.

Also, he agreed to put the kids to bed tonight. I was thinking maybe we'd watch Roman Holiday when he emerged. Maybe I'd run down to 7-11 for some bubbly so we could toast the new year....

That was 8:00. It's now 10:45. Somehow, I don't think he's coming out of there until 2014.

Happy New Year, honey. Thanks for all you did for us today. xo

Tidepooling

Yesterday in Bolinas.

A little more Christmas

From my other camera, as promised.

Time for a title: More posts, more Christmas

I'm making a new year's resolution to post more often. So many (daily) adventures and tender moments never get captured in here. And catch-ups are long and ungainly.

But for now, I'm catching up.

Here are Christmas memories -- from my cell phone. I will add favorite shots from the better camera in a later post. Or so I resolve.

Tilden carousel at night. I have never managed, in years of coming to this magical place, to take a very good photo here.

Catching the train to Truckee a week before Christmas. Just me and Lukie (Chris and Halina drove up the next afternoon).

I love that he still has his baby face in this picture.

But just a few minutes later, he's got more of a "big kid" look. That's how it is lately -- shifting.

Let's go right out and play in the snow!

Wearing a hat I knit during our stay at Truckee. My second completed project. (The first was also a hat). Yay!

On Matthew: "That boy is going to play with me some more. He's wonderful!"

In Grass Valley, making Christmas cookies at Grandma Mary's with Auntie Sue.

Playing ball with Grandma while they bake.

Cookies galore.

Great presents everywhere we went.

Sleep over at Grandma's!

Nature walk, looking for treasures.

Rainbow looming, lunching, and playing in Davis.

I have a special love for Davis. The big leafy trees, the open spaces, the light. It's just right.

Back home in time for Christmas!

Post-Christmas recovery date: An old movie,  lots of music videos, and all kinds of chocolate.

Santa brought guitars and matryoshka dolls. Halina got them together for a lesson.

Bringing me lilies from the garden.

How I found Luke after hearing Halina tell him to wait 'til she got back.

I taught myself to play two-handed Silent Night in two days (thanks, YouTube). This is the only song I know on the piano. Fun! Obsessive!
Luke's first time solo on a carousel.

Together. Winter break = lots of together. I love it.
