Here's a photo from a couple hours ago. I found this beat up ride-on toy on the side of the road a few months ago, then it sat under our deck in a big-trash haul-away pile making me feel bad for bringing home junk when we have too much stuff as it is in our house (purging is another goal for June, but needs some refining). Digging out this toy and seeing the kids figure out a way to enjoy it just goes to show that it can be hard to distinguish junk from treasure sometimes.

One of the reasons I started this blog was to capture the little things that make ordinary days special, and not only to share that with others, but also to reflect that back to myself so I can see it again in a practice of self compassion and gratitude. Too often what sticks in my head is the screw up, but each day is filled with sacred and surprising beauty and quiet successes. I know that of course. But to retell the tale of it to yourself is important. So that is why I am resolving to post 5 days per week in June as part of my Happiness Project. In her book of the same name, Gretchen Rubin created a year of eight goals per month, each month with its own theme, plus a lot of other guidelines in the form of "splendid truths" and so on. The idea was to pursue her own experience of happiness. I won't go into it more here now, but I am going to give it a shot for the summer. I haven't fleshed out my goals and all yet but one for June will be the blog thing. My MacBook is on the fritz so I'm forced to use my iPhone today. That may be a blessing toward my goal of frequent postings that are not overly thought out.
